This year, poker players from Finland will have the bragging rights over players from other Nordic countries, as three out four awards went to Finland at tonight’s PokerStars Nordic Poker Awards at Park nightclub in Copenhagen.

That the competition among poker players from Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland is severely fierce was underlined tonight by a series of world-class nominees for the PokerStars Nordic Poker Awards. And not even Peter Eastgate’s solid tournament results throughout all of 2009 was enough for him to bring home an award.
The big winner of the evening was Ville Wahlbeck who won awards for Best Live Tournament Player of the Year and Best Performance of the Year. Wahlbeck completed a series of exceptionally good results during the 2009 World Series of Poker where he managed to finish among the best 13 players for six tournaments. As a result, he can now also put two Nordic Poker Awards in his trophy cabinet and look forward to starting the EPT Copenhagen with a nice charge of fresh confidence.

Another Finnish player, Patrik Antonius, has again in 2009 made his mark at the online tables. For this, Antonius was awarded with Best Online Player of the Year.
One of the most remarkable players of 2009 was Swede Kristoffer ‘Sumpas’ Thorsson as he took down the highroller event at the PokerStars WCOOP and the Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam. For these efforts, he was awarded with the title of Rookie of the Year.
